My Rainbow Eyes - Poetry by Jenn Lundell

Contradictions

I’m a mass of contradictions
I pull myself away from you
I reach down for the stars
I dig a hole to see the sky

I go deep sea diving just to see the man on the moon
I sit in the dark to see things in a better light

I reach up above my head to tie my shoes
I look to my left and see you standing to the right of me
I turn on my radio to watch the news

I pitch the football and I hit a home run
I wear green and red because it’s Halloween day
I dribble the volleyball during the basketball unit in gym

It’s mother’s day, I got my dad a toaster
I order meat loaf at red lobster
I wear pink at funerals

I wave hello when I say goodbye
What some call a ‘remote’ I call a ‘Channel Changer
I am different in a similar sort of way
